The Proton X90 is the latest and largest SUV from the national carmaker, and also its first model to feature a mild hybrid system. Launched in 2023, the X90 is a three-row, seven-seater SUV that competes in the D-segment with rivals like the Hyundai Santa Fe and the Toyota Fortuner. Based on the Geely Haoyue (also known as the Okavango in some markets), the X90 showcases Proton's commitment to introducing new technologies and intelligent solutions to the local automotive industry.
The X90 is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine with a 48V Electric Motor Synergy (EMS) system, which delivers a combined output of 190 PS and 300 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) that sends power to the front wheels. The 48V EMS system provides an additional boost of 13 PS and 45 Nm, as well as improved fuel efficiency, performance and reduced emissions. The X90 is also Proton's first step into the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) segment, as it aims to reduce carbon footprint by adopting green engine technology.
The X90 measures 4,835 mm long, 1,900 mm wide and 1,785 mm tall, with a 2,815 mm wheelbase. It is available in four variants: Standard, Executive, Premium and Flagship. The Standard variant comes with six airbags, ABS with EBD and BA, stability control, hill start assist, hill descent control, rear parking sensors, reverse camera, LED headlights and taillights, 17-inch alloy wheels, fabric seats, manual air-conditioning for all three rows, an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with four speakers and a digital instrument cluster.
The Executive variant adds on front parking sensors, leather seats, power-adjustable driver seat, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear vents, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with six speakers and online navigation, wireless charging pad and a panoramic sunroof. The Premium variant further adds on blind spot monitoring, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, rear collision warning, traffic sign information, adaptive cruise control with stop and go function, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane keeping assist and high beam assist.
The Flagship variant is the top-of-the-line model that comes with all the bells and whistles. It features a six-seater configuration with individual captain chairs for the second row, ventilated front seats with massage function for the driver seat, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with head-up display (HUD), a 360-degree camera system, a Harman Kardon sound system with nine speakers and a subwoofer, an electric tailgate with foot sensor and a Nappa leather interior.
The X90 is available in six colours: Snow White, Armour Silver, Jet Grey, Cinnamon Brown, Ruby Red and Marine Blue. The prices range from RM 129,888 for the Standard variant to RM 169,888 for the Flagship variant (on-the-road without insurance). The X90 comes with a five-year or 150,000 km warranty (whichever comes first), as well as a five-year or 100,000 km free service package (whichever comes first).
